As a japanese I don't say natto is the soul of Japanese. It's regional food in Kanto and many of Japanese don't like it. If you want to try it add as many condiment as you want.     See More

If you want to try it add as many condiment as you want.     See More d half boiled egg, green onion, katsuobushi, sesame seeds, tiny dried fish, seaweed etc. The more condiments you add to it the more it gets better. Eating natto is an excuse to enjoy condiments in my opinion. The same goes with Somen noodles and other simple dishes.
If you think find some food weird or gross, think about why people started to eat it? It must have been tasty. The more grotesque food is the more delicious it gets.    See Less
