They look great. But there are so many accolades and voting boards for Fish and Chips in the UK, I dont know who to believe. The village I live in won the best Fish and Chips last year and honestly they are shite... No one goes in.

Bells chippys are quality as well. Find them in numerous locations throughout the northeast. Non in Middlesbrough, I dont think. Durham, gateshead ect

Gotta be cooked in beef dripping.. so many chippies using GMO vegetable oil now and it's vile.

Only problem with Downey's is they only make fish to order. Have to wait 10minutes every time. Even at tea time when they know people will be buying they won't have fish ready. Worth the wait though.

Best chip shop in sunderland by a country mile is Fountains at Carley Hill. Been there since the early 90s. Very traditional not a great deal on the menu and on a good friday the queue can be 80 deep
