My mother used to have an antique mustache cup she kept on a shelf in her kitchen. I think it was her grandfatherโs or some other relative. It was quite ornate and delicate.
I donโt think the wax they used back then was safe for consumption so it was probably incredibly bitter and the last thing youโd want is a bitter chemical taste with your soggy moustache you know British aristocrats and their tea and all.
Also stops the various pomades, oils & waxes in ones 'tache from flavouring what you drink. Especially hot drinks. Most of them smell nice but taste awful.
I'll give you the steam possibly messing with the wax, if you held the cup there for mor than a sip and back down. As far as froth, simpler solution: drink it black.
i don't know why this is outrageous or funny. we literally serve coffee in cups with slotted lids now to prevent spillage and messy drinking NOW and have. done so for decades. this is quite ahead of its time

Tid bit three Era in question is also when bear grease was one of the things to wax with which in guessing did not taste good with tea or coffee
